Alteogen signs up to $365 million licensing deal for Hybrozyme drug delivery technology

The agreement grants worldwide rights to the partner for the development and commercialisation of a recombinant human hyaluronidase developed using Alteogen's Hybrozyme platform


South Korea-based biotechnology company Alteogen has entered into an exclusive global licensing agreement worth up to USD 365 million with an undisclosed global pharmaceutical company to develop and commercialise a subcutaneous biologic product using its proprietary Hybrozyme drug delivery technology.

The agreement grants worldwide rights to the partner for the development and commercialisation of a biologic therapy incorporating ALT-B4 (berahyaluronidase alfa), a recombinant human hyaluronidase developed using Alteogen's Hybrozyme platform.

Under the terms of the agreement, Alteogen will receive an upfront payment and will be eligible for additional development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments. The company will also earn royalties on net sales of products commercialised using the technology.

ALT-B4 is designed to convert biologic medicines that are traditionally administered through intravenous infusion into more convenient subcutaneous formulations. 

The technology works by temporarily degrading hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix, allowing co-administered medicines to be absorbed and dispersed more efficiently following subcutaneous injection.

Alteogen specialises in the development and commercialisation of biologics, including biosimilars, biobetters and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). 

The company's pipeline also includes long-acting therapeutic proteins and next-generation ADCs developed using its proprietary NexP-fusion and NexMab platform technologies.
