The acquisition brings MLM’s laboratory network and scientific service capabilities into Labcorp’s global infrastructure, expanding the company’s wholly owned laboratory footprint

North Carolina based Labcorp has acquired MLM Medical Labs, a central and speciality laboratory services provider with operations in Germany, South Africa and the US, in a move to expand its global central laboratory and biomarker capabilities for clinical studies.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition brings MLM’s laboratory network and scientific service capabilities into Labcorp’s global infrastructure, expanding the company’s wholly owned laboratory footprint across Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.

Labcorp said the expanded network will provide clinical trial sponsors with greater consistency in scientific and operational oversight across multinational studies, as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies increasingly conduct complex development programmes across multiple regions.

“Clinical trial sponsors today need scientific expertise, global reach and operational flexibility to advance increasingly complex development programmes,” said Brian Caveney, Executive Vice President, Labcorp and President, Biopharma Laboratory Services.

“MLM complements Labcorp’s existing strengths and enhances our ability to support sponsors of all sizes, from emerging biotechs to leading pharmaceutical companies. Together, we are well positioned to provide the capabilities, regional expertise and high-touch support sponsors need to advance innovative therapies worldwide,” he added.

The acquisition strengthens Labcorp’s presence in key clinical research markets, particularly Africa, where MLM operates a College of American Pathologists-accredited central laboratory.

Labcorp said the combination of its scientific capabilities and operational scale with MLM’s regional infrastructure will broaden the services available to sponsors across clinical development programmes.

Evercore served as Labcorp’s exclusive financial adviser, while Pierson Ferdinand and Hogan Lovells provided legal counsel.

The acquisition follows other recent moves by Labcorp to expand its healthcare and diagnostic offerings. In July, the company launched the Marker by Labcorp Genetic Health Panel through Labcorp OnDemand, targeting consumer access to information on hereditary risks associated with more than 100 medically actionable conditions.

The panel analyses 163 genes linked to hereditary cancer, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders.
