Powered by Iris high-definition AI-enhanced imaging, Elekta Evo integrates online and offline adaptive capabilities into a single platform, enabling clinicians to deliver highly precise radiation therapy
Manipal Hospital, Yelahanka has become the first healthcare institution in India to install Elekta Evo, the company's AI-enhanced adaptive CT-Linac platform, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of personalised radiation therapy for cancer patients.
Elekta Evo integrates online and offline adaptive capabilities into a single platform, enabling clinicians to deliver highly precise radiation therapy across a wide range of cancer indications while improving workflow efficiency and treatment accuracy.
The installation enables clinicians to deliver Online Adaptive Radiotherapy (oART), allowing radiation treatment plans to be adjusted in real time based on changes in a patient's anatomy, thereby improving treatment precision while minimising radiation exposure to healthy tissues.
The milestone follows the Indian debut of Elekta Evo at AROICON 2025, the country's premier radiation oncology conference.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India records an estimated 1.46 million new cancer cases annually, underscoring the growing need for advanced radiation technologies capable of delivering more precise and personalised treatment.
Manipal Hospital has already begun using the platform in clinical practice, successfully treating its first patient with locally advanced rectal cancer using online adaptive radiotherapy. The patient completed neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy with minimal radiation-related side effects, demonstrating the potential of daily adaptive treatment to improve tumour targeting while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
Feras Al Hasan, Head of Region TIMEA at Elekta, said the installation marks an important step in expanding access to adaptive radiation therapy in India.
