The ChemiSphere app exemplifies how M-Trust technology transforms workflows into seamless digital experiences

Merck KGaA, a global leader in science and technology, has unveiled the ChemiSphere app, a digital tool that gives scientists instant access to product documentation and quality information through 2D barcodes on Life Science products.

Powered by the company’s secure M-Trust platform, the app aims to streamline data retrieval, reduce manual steps, and improve data integrity in laboratories.

“The ChemiSphere app exemplifies how M-Trust technology transforms workflows into seamless digital experiences,” said Thomas Endress, Head of M-Trust at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. “This application example represents the future of scientific work, where physical products and digital data converge to make customers’ lives easier by instantly connecting them to the information they need while ensuring trust in their products.”

The first commercial use case was developed with Metrohm AG, Herisau, Switzerland, enabling titration and Karl Fischer reagent data to flow directly from reagent bottles to Metrohm’s OMNIS titrator. This integration bridges a critical gap in digital data integrity, enhancing titration efficiency and reducing the risk of errors.

The launch underscores Merck’s commitment to smarter, more connected lab tools.

“Chemists gain significant efficiency from even minor workflow enhancements and minimizing data transfer errors,” said Rajeev Nair, Head of Chemistry for the Life Science business sector of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. “By linking reagent data directly to instrument software and eliminating manual entry, the ChemiSphere® app greatly reduces error risks and streamlines analytical workflows in the laboratory.”

Additional features include: instant access to certificates of analysis and safety data sheets; product authentication via secure scan, linking quality data to the physical item; integration with the M-Trust platform to support digital product passports and anti-counterfeiting measures.

Built on the M-Trust platform, launched in January 2025, the ChemiSphere app strengthens product safety, traceability, and anti-counterfeiting across industries. M-Trust allows organizations to securely verify product quality and authenticity, linking physical products with their digital counterparts and reinforcing trust through Digital Product Passports (DPPs).
