India continued to account for the majority of Molbio's business, contributing 83.52% of revenue, while exports accounted for 16.48%
Molbio Diagnostics Limited, the Goa-based point-of-care diagnostics company, reported a sharp turnaround in its first quarterly results as a listed company, with total income more than quadrupling and the company returning to profitability in the first quarter of FY27.
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Molbio reported total income of Rs. 411.48 crore, compared with Rs. 100.47 crore in Q1 FY26. EBITDA stood at Rs. 103.68 crore, compared with an EBITDA loss of Rs. 14.50 crore a year earlier, while the EBITDA margin improved to 25.20% from a negative 14.43%.
Profit after tax (PAT) stood at Rs. 52.74 crore in Q1 FY27, against a loss of Rs. 23.94 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. PAT margin improved to 12.82% from a negative 23.83%.
On a sequential basis, however, performance moderated from the previous quarter, when total income stood at Rs. 565.41 crore and PAT at Rs. 95.83 crore.
The company said its revenue profile is non-linear across quarters and therefore quarterly performance should be assessed in the context of full-year performance.
The strong Q1 performance was driven primarily by continued growth in Truenat test-kit consumption. Test-kit sales rose sharply to 6.24 million units in Q1 FY27 from 0.79 million units in Q1 FY26. Device sales, meanwhile, declined to 164 units from 216 units in the year-ago quarter.
India continued to account for the majority of Molbio's business, contributing 83.52% of revenue, while exports accounted for 16.48%.
The company said around Rs. 57 crore of export orders that were originally expected to be recognised in Q4 FY26 were deferred due to disruptions in the Gulf region and were subsequently recognised during the June quarter. This contributed to the strong year-on-year growth in the quarter.
Sriram Natarajan, Executive Director and CEO of Molbio Diagnostics, described FY27 as a "milestone year" for the company as it transitions into a listed entity following its market debut on August 17, 2026.
Natarajan attributed the quarter's performance to sustained growth in test-kit consumption across Molbio's installed base of more than 12,500 Truenat devices deployed across more than 90 countries. He also cautioned that the company's quarterly performance can vary significantly because of its non-linear revenue profile.
