Study introduces structured, condition-specific emergency coding system to improve coordination, response time, and patient safety in tertiary care hospitals
Aakash Healthcare has marked an academic milestone with the publication of a study in the International Journal for Quality in Health Care, an Oxford Academic journal focused on patient safety and healthcare quality standards.
Titled “Evaluating Emergency Code Use and Integrating Clinical Codes for Emergency Conditions to Improve Coordination in a Tertiary Care Hospital,” the study examines a key operational challenge in hospital systems—inefficiencies in emergency communication, delays in escalation, and the limitations of conventional alert mechanisms.
The research has been authored by Dr. Aashish Chaudhry, Mani Pandey, Tanushree Bora, Shaarang Sachdev, and Shubhi Singh, and was carried out at Aakash Healthcare, a leading tertiary care hospital in New Delhi.
Key findings of the study include gaps in communication and clarity within traditional emergency code systems; development and implementation of structured, condition-based clinical code; faster response times and improved coordination among multidisciplinary teams; and scalable framework that can be adopted across tertiary care hospitals.
Conducted in a high-volume clinical environment handling over 23,000 inpatient admissions and 240,000 outpatient visits annually, the study underscores the practical relevance and scalability of its findings.
Dr Aashish Chaudhry, Senior Author and Managing Director, Aakash Healthcare, said, “Our focus has always been on improving not just clinical outcomes, but also the systems that enable care delivery. This study reflects our commitment to innovation, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement in healthcare.”
