The initiative aims to provide cancer survivors and caregivers with continued access to expert guidance, peer support and wellbeing resources after active treatment
Apollo Cancer Centres, Vanagaram has launched ‘Apollo Nambikkai’, a cancer survivorship support community aimed at helping cancer survivors and caregivers stay connected, informed and supported beyond active treatment.
The initiative was launched as part of a Cancer Survivors Programme, which brought together around 100 cancer survivors and caregivers to recognise their journeys and highlight the challenges that can continue after completion of cancer treatment.
While completing treatment marks a significant milestone, survivors can face a range of ongoing challenges, including nutrition and lifestyle changes, emotional wellbeing, rehabilitation, returning to work and concerns about recurrence.
Apollo Nambikkai has been designed to provide a platform where survivors and caregivers can interact with others with similar experiences while accessing credible information and guidance from healthcare professionals.
Initially launched through Apollo Cancer Centres, Vanagaram, the community will be open to survivors and caregivers across all Apollo Cancer Centres units, irrespective of where they received treatment. Membership will be free, with registration available through mobile platforms.
A dedicated WhatsApp community will serve as the primary engagement platform, offering expert sessions, survivor interactions, nutrition and lifestyle guidance, psychological wellbeing sessions, webinars and community meetings.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Suresh, HOD & Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centres, Vanagaram, said that survivorship brings its own set of questions and challenges even after treatment is completed.
“Apollo Nambikkai is about creating a community where survivors and caregivers can share their experiences, find reliable guidance and draw strength from one another. We want people to know that they do not have to navigate life after cancer alone,” he said.
The programme was attended by Badava Gopi, Comedian and Actor, Kollywood, as the special guest.
John Chandy, CBO, Group Oncology, Apollo Hospitals, and Mr. Kaarthik Ramamurthy, COO, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Vanagaram, were also present.
