As India grapples with a growing burden of chronic respiratory diseases, global health technology major Philips has launched Oxygenate 5, a stationary oxygen concentrator designed to support patients requiring long-term oxygen therapy at home.
The launch comes against the backdrop of a significant respiratory health challenge in the country. According to reports, COPD affects around 13% of adults in India, with the prevalence rising to 27% among people aged 60 and above.
The figures underscore the growing need for accessible, reliable respiratory care, particularly for patients managing chronic conditions outside hospital settings.
For patients with chronic respiratory diseases who develop severe hypoxaemia, long-term oxygen therapy can play a critical role in ongoing care. Philips' Oxygenate 5 is designed to address these needs by bringing dependable oxygen delivery and patient-focused features into the home environment.
With respiratory care increasingly shifting beyond hospitals, the focus is also turning to making long-term treatment more manageable for patients and caregivers. Oxygenate 5 features quieter operation at less than 40 dB, an easy-to-read digital flowmeter and simplified routine maintenance, aiming to improve the everyday experience of oxygen therapy.
Bharath Sesha, Managing Director, Philips Indian Subcontinent, said, “For people living with chronic respiratory conditions, access to reliable oxygen therapy can make a meaningful difference to how they manage their everyday lives. As India faces a growing burden of respiratory diseases, the need is not just for advanced technology, but for solutions that make long-term care simpler, more dependable and accessible to patients.
"With Oxygenate 5, we are bringing innovation closer to the needs of patients and their families, recognising that effective care must also support comfort and confidence in everyday life. At Philips, we believe the real impact of innovation is measured by how meaningfully it improves the lives of those we serve.”
The Oxygenate 5 delivers continuous oxygen flow ranging from 0.5 to 5 litres per minute (L/min), with a digital flow display designed to make oxygen settings and monitoring easier. The device also aims to support durable medical equipment (DME) providers and clinicians in managing patient care, backed by customer service support.
Maintenance and operating costs have also been factored into the design. The concentrator features nine levels of filtration and comes with four additional air inlet filters and one additional air filter. Its user-replaceable filters are designed to reduce the need for consumable purchases, potentially lowering operational costs while making routine maintenance easier.
