The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has extended financial assistance to OrthoGraft Pvt. Ltd., Vadodara, to establish manufacturing capabilities for advanced tissue-derived biological dressings for difficult-to-heal wounds.

The project, titled Production Set-up for Advanced Tissue Derived Biological Dressings, aims to develop indigenous wound-care products for applications including chronic wounds, diabetic foot ulcers and burns.

OrthoGraft, a DPIIT-recognised medical device startup, is developing tissue substitutes using proprietary technologies that process viable human tissue into shelf-stable biological products while retaining key structural and biological properties relevant to wound healing.

The company said the funding will enable it to establish dedicated production capabilities and accelerate the development of its proprietary tissue-processing platform into clinically relevant products, with the broader objective of building an indigenous portfolio of advanced tissue substitutes for wound care.

The company’s tissue-processing technology is designed to remove cells while preserving tissue integrity and bioactive components.

The resulting dressings are being developed with improved tensile strength, high retention of bioactive factors and a Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate (MVTR) comparable to commercially available moist wound dressings.

With TDB’s support, OrthoGraft will strengthen its production infrastructure at the Savli Technology Business Incubator in Vadodara, where it has established a bio-incubation facility.

The company has also secured the required CDSCO licences for manufacturing medical devices for testing and is exploring collaborations with tertiary-care hospitals and medical institutions to advance clinical translation.

Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said the Board's support is intended to help OrthoGraft translate its tissue-processing technology into commercially manufacturable wound-care products and strengthen India's capabilities in advanced biomaterials and tissue-engineered healthcare solutions.
