Approval paves the way for expansion in North America’s growing vascular access market, with innovative SlipStream technology designed to simplify catheter insertion and enhance patient care
Vygon Corporation, a global medical devices compnay, has received Health Canada approval to commercialize its next-generation Stiletto Extended Dwell Catheter (EDC), marking a significant milestone in the company’s North American growth strategy.
The approval enables Vygon to enter Canada's rapidly expanding extended-dwell catheter market, a key segment within the broader vascular access industry. To support nationwide commercialization, the company has appointed NIPRO Canada as its exclusive distributor across the country.
The Stiletto Extended Dwell Catheter is a sterile, single-use device designed for short-term vascular access of up to 28 days. It allows healthcare professionals to administer fluids and medications as well as obtain blood samples through a peripherally inserted catheter.
Manufactured in the United States under stringent quality control standards and validated sterilization processes, the device is designed to meet international medical device regulatory requirements.
A key differentiator of the Stiletto system is its patented SlipStream™ insertion technology. Unlike traditional extended-dwell catheter placement methods that rely on the Seldinger technique and guidewires, SlipStream streamlines the procedure by eliminating guidewires and reducing the number of insertion steps.
This simplified approach is intended to make catheter placement safer, more intuitive, and more efficient for clinicians while improving patient comfort and reducing procedural complexity.
Peter Ciriello, Chief Executive Officer of Vygon Corporation USA and head of the company’s North American operations, said, “This approval reflects our strong commitment to supporting Canadian healthcare professionals with high-quality, innovative medical devices. Stiletto’s SlipStream technology presents clinicians with a simpler, safer and more intuitive technique for inserting extended-dwell catheters, delivering significant improvements in patient comfort, safety and care efficiency, fully aligned with Vygon’s mission to Value Life.”
