Alivus Life Sciences Limited, formerly Glenmark Life Sciences, is expanding beyond active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with the acquisition of a 76% stake in formulation development company IQGenX Pharma Private Limited for Rs. 9.12 crore.

 

The acquisition gives Alivus a foothold in advanced formulation development across oral solids, sterile injectables and ophthalmic solutions, targeting regulated and semi-regulated markets in the US, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

 

Founded in 2016, IQGenX is a custom research organisation focused on formulation development. Its platform will allow Alivus to broaden its capabilities from APIs into an integrated development and manufacturing offering spanning complex drug-delivery formats.

 

The company said the deal will add capabilities in bioequivalence and stability studies, supporting regulatory filings across global markets and helping Alivus expand its customer base in the generic pharmaceutical segment.

 

The acquisition also strengthens Alivus’ pitch to global contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) customers. The expanded platform will cover the drug-development chain from pre-formulation and prototype development through process optimisation, scale-up, clinical supplies and commercial manufacturing. Analytical development, method validation, stability programmes and regulatory submission support will also be offered.

 

Alivus plans to combine IQGenX’s formulation capabilities with its own API portfolio, with a particular focus on oncology. The company aims to build a portfolio of differentiated, niche assets that can be out-licensed across multiple international markets.

 

The acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

 

Alivus develops and manufactures high-value, non-commoditised APIs for chronic therapeutic areas including cardiovascular disease, central nervous system disorders, pain management and diabetes. The company also provides CDMO services to multinational and specialty pharmaceutical companies.
