The report examines how changing cultural attitudes toward beauty and aging are reshaping the aesthetic treatment landscap

Consumers are moving beyond one-off aesthetic treatments and embracing a more personalized, long-term approach to beauty and aging, according to a new global report from Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company.

The company has unveiled its Layered Beauty: The New Aesthetic Mindset report, based on research involving more than 12,000 beauty-involved consumers across nine global markets, alongside insights from healthcare practitioners and regional experts.

The report examines how changing cultural attitudes toward beauty and aging are reshaping the aesthetic treatment landscape—and what those shifts mean for healthcare providers treating today’s increasingly informed aesthetic patients.

"Aesthetic medicine is increasingly defined by personalization, education and long-term, consultative treatment planning to deliver natural outcomes," said Nicole Mowad-Nassar, Senior Vice President, AbbVie and President, Global Allergan Aesthetics.

"Layered Beauty brings together perspectives from consumers and practitioners around the world to better understand these shifts and help inform the future of the global aesthetic treatment landscape."

At the heart of the report is the growing idea of “layering”—a concept already influencing beauty, skincare and wellness. According to the findings, consumers are applying the same philosophy to aesthetic medicine, increasingly favoring personalized, multimodal treatment plans over dramatic, one-time transformations.

"As providers, we're seeing patients approach aesthetics with a much more thoughtful, long-term mindset," said Jeanette Black, Board-Certified Dermatologist and U.S. contributor to the Layered Beauty Report.

"Rather than asking for a single treatment, many patients are looking for personalized plans that evolve with them and complement their overall approach to beauty and wellness. These findings validate what we're experiencing in practice and reinforce the importance of individualized treatment planning and trusted patient-provider relationships."

Key findings

Aesthetics is becoming a long-term journey. Consumers are moving away from one-time treatments and toward personalized plans designed to evolve with their goals and different stages of life.

Skin quality is taking center stage. Consumers increasingly view skin quality as the foundation of aesthetic care and are integrating aesthetic treatments into broader beauty and wellness routines.

Provider expertise matters more than ever. Consumers are turning to trusted healthcare providers for education, long-term treatment strategies and recommendations for personalized, complementary approaches.

There is no single global beauty ideal. While broad aesthetic trends are emerging worldwide, beauty ideals and treatment priorities continue to differ across regions, highlighting the importance of localized perspectives and approaches to care.

The Layered Beauty Report is part of Allergan Aesthetics’ broader focus on using consumer insights to advance education and inform the future of aesthetic care.

Its findings point to a clear evolution in the category: aesthetic medicine is increasingly moving from isolated treatments toward personalized, holistic and multimodal approaches built around individual goals.
