Biodeal Pharmaceuticals has acquired a major sterile injectable manufacturing facility in Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, from Biological E Limited, marking a significant expansion of the contract development and manufacturing organisation’s (CDMO) capabilities.

 

The facility, among the largest manufacturing sites in Himachal Pradesh, gives Biodeal an established sterile injectable platform, specialised manufacturing capabilities and regulatory credentials as the company targets additional global regulated markets.

 

The Paonta Sahib facility manufactures general injectables and Carbapenems in vial formats and is equipped with German-made Groninger processing lines. It currently has an annual production capacity of around 135 million units, with significant scope for expansion across its 17 production lines.

 

Biodeal also plans to add pre-filled syringe (PFS) and lyophilised formats, while pursuing PIC/S and EU accreditation for the facility to support its expansion into additional regulated markets.

Spread across 14 acres, the facility has approximately 39,000 square metres of built-up manufacturing space. Biodeal said near-term expansion could add another 30 million units of capacity.

 

The site is located around 50 kilometres from Biodeal’s existing facility in Nalagarh, strengthening the company’s manufacturing presence within Himachal Pradesh’s established pharmaceutical corridor.

 

The acquisition also broadens Biodeal’s injectable manufacturing portfolio for global pharmaceutical customers, including Carbapenems used in the treatment of serious bacterial and drug-resistant infections. The company is also expanding into ready-to-use pre-filled syringe formats and lyophilised products designed to offer extended stability and shelf life.

 

The facility was acquired from Hyderabad-headquartered Biological E Limited, which has nearly seven decades of experience in vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The divestment comes as Biological E continues to direct investment towards its new vaccine R&D and CDMO campus in Telangana.

With the acquisition, Biodeal is adding both scale and specialised sterile manufacturing capabilities to its platform, positioning Paonta Sahib as a key part of its plans to build a larger regulated-market CDMO business.
