New clinical-stage company to advance PRMT5 and SOS1 cancer programmes through global clinical development

Global pharmaceutical major Lupin has launched a strategic move to advance its oncology pipeline by spinning out two promising cancer drug programs into a new US-based clinical-stage biotechnology company, Kaveri Therapeutics Inc.

Through its wholly owned subsidiary Lupin Inc., the company has transferred its oncology programs LNP7457 and LNP8701 to Kaveri Therapeutics, which will now lead their global clinical development and trial programs.

As part of the agreement, Lupin will retain a significant equity stake in Kaveri, provide initial seed funding, and grant exclusive rights to the transferred programs.

Kaveri Therapeutics will operate as an independent entity under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Kristi Jones, a veteran biopharmaceutical executive known for building and advancing innovative healthcare companies. The company’s clinical strategy will be led by Chief Medical Officer Robert Pierce, who brings extensive experience in oncology drug development.

The newly formed company plans to raise additional capital to support further clinical development of the two programs.

"We are proud to have pioneered these oncology assets and look forward to advancing them through Kaveri Therapeutics," said Vinita Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, Lupin. "The strength of these assets, combined with Kaveri's seasoned leadership team, positions us to accelerate the development of targeted oncology therapies with the goal of bringing meaningful innovation to patients."

The strategic spin-out marks Lupin’s continued focus on advancing innovative therapies while leveraging specialized biotech expertise to push potential cancer treatments through late-stage development.
