Massachusetts based biotech company, Q-VANT Biosciences, has announced that its manufacturing facility in Santiago, Chile, has achieved EXCiPACT certification for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements for pharmaceutical excipients.
The certification was issued following an audit by SGS, an independent testing, inspection and certification company, and covers the facility’s commercial-scale production of QS-21 and other high-purity saponin fractions used in human and veterinary vaccines.
Q-VANT said the certification strengthens its ability to supply vaccine manufacturers, formulation partners and global health organisations with scalable and quality-assured adjuvant materials. Its portfolio includes QS-21, Animune-Q for veterinary vaccines and QS-Oral, an oral mucosal adjuvant.
The company operates a vertically integrated model covering Quillaja biomass sourcing, processing, purification and commercial manufacturing at origin. According to Q-VANT, its production capacity can support adjuvant requirements for billions of vaccine doses annually.
Based on its review of publicly available records, Q-VANT said it is the only company in the Southern Hemisphere to achieve EXCiPACT certification for commercial-scale GMP production of QS-21.
Juan Jose Albarran, CEO, Q-VANT Biosciences, said the certification marks a major milestone for the company and the wider vaccine ecosystem, adding that its vertically integrated model is designed to provide vaccine developers with quality, scale and supply security.
Q-VANT said its operations are designed to utilise the full Quillaja biomass, providing a sustainable foundation for large-scale saponin production. The company is working with vaccine manufacturers, formulation partners and global health organisations to expand access to saponin-based adjuvant technologies.
