Global Cancer Care (GCC), a patient-first cancer awareness, early detection and navigation platform, has expanded its on-ground services in Mumbai, aiming to bridge these critical gaps that prevent timely cancer diagnosis.
Based in DN Nagar, Andheri, the initiative is focused on a problem that continues to plague cancer outcomes in India: delays driven not by lack of treatment, but by fear, confusion and absence of guidance in the earliest stages.
Jointly founded by media professional Nivedita Basu and renowned oncologist Dr Shivam Shingla, Global Cancer Care positions itself well before hospitalisation addressing the emotional, informational and diagnostic challenges that often leave patients isolated long before they meet a specialist.
At the core of the initiative is its philosophy, “Because I Care,” reflecting a belief that emotional security and medical clarity directly influence outcomes. By combining compassion with structured guidance, GCC aims to ensure that patients are supported from the very first step.
Speaking about the vision behind the initiative, Nivedita said: "It was against this backdrop and during my own deeply personal health scare earlier this year that Dr Shivam and I realised just how isolating the early stages of a possible cancer diagnosis can be. The discovery of a breast lump led me into a cycle of tests, medical terminology, conflicting advice and emotional turmoil.
"You feel the fear even before you feel the diagnosis. The unknown becomes bigger than the disease itself, and during that time, there is no one who tells you what to do, where to go, or how to hold yourself together. Global Cancer Care was created so that no one has to walk those first frightening steps alone.”
Dr. Shivam Shingla, Clinical Director, underscored the urgency of early intervention and ethical care.
"Cancer is one of the most complex and costly diseases to treat — not only financially, but emotionally and psychologically. In India, many patients still reach an oncologist far too late, not because care is unavailable, but because fear, confusion and lack of guidance delay action.
"At Global Cancer Care, our mission is to normalise screening, encourage early diagnosis, and provide patients with clear, ethical and affordable treatment pathways. When people are guided early, supported emotionally, and treated with transparency and compassion, outcomes improve significantly. That is the change we are committed to driving.”
Backed by a multidisciplinary team and a trusted network of oncologists across Mumbai, Global Cancer Care supports patients through symptom evaluation, screening pathways, diagnostic interpretation and referrals to credible specialists.
For those undergoing chemotherapy, GCC also offers structured treatment guidance and access to cooling cap therapy, helping patients cope with the physical and psychological toll of treatment.
The organisation has also announced a phased expansion of its clinical infrastructure. Global Cancer Care currently operates with 10 inpatient beds and plans to scale up to 100 beds within the next year, with a long-term target of 400 beds over the next five years.
The expansion is designed to ensure continuity of care for patients who begin their journey with GCC at the awareness or diagnostic stage and later require treatment.
Beyond Mumbai, Global Cancer Care is preparing for pan-India expansion through strategic partnerships with hospitals, diagnostic centres, oncologists, corporates and community organisations. The goal is to extend early detection, patient navigation and affordable cancer care across multiple cities.
Affordability remains central to the model. With transparent pricing, ethical treatment pathways and a strong emphasis on patient education, GCC aims to ensure that financial burden does not become another barrier to timely care.
