Revenue from operations rises to Rs. 39.92 crore as company reports Rs. 20.78 crore quarterly loss amid higher research and development expenses
Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company Ltd (SPARC) reported a consolidated loss of Rs. 20.78 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with a loss of Rs. 51.87 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
According to the company's unaudited consolidated financial results, revenue from operations stood at Rs. 39.92 crore in Q1FY27, compared with Rs. 9.64 crore in Q1FY26. Total income for the quarter was Rs. 63.58 crore, including Rs. 23.66 crore of other income.
The company reported total expenses of Rs. 84.25 crore during the quarter, compared with Rs. 70.59 crore in the year-ago period. Clinical trial expenses and product development costs stood at Rs. 13.26 crore, while employee benefits expenses were Rs. 29.61 crore and professional charges amounted to Rs. 15.19 crore.
Loss before exceptional items and tax stood at Rs. 20.67 crore in Q1FY27, compared with a loss of Rs. 51.81 crore in Q1FY26. The company reported no significant exceptional item during the quarter.
On a per-share basis, basic and diluted loss stood at Rs. 0.64 for Q1FY27, compared with a loss of Rs. 1.60 in the corresponding quarter last year.
SPARC's consolidated financial results include its wholly owned subsidiaries SPARC Life Sciences Inc. and Genokine Biotech Limited. The company operates in a single reportable business segment, Pharmaceutical Research and Development.
A key contributor to the quarter's income was a Priority Review Voucher (PRV) granted by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Sezaby.
During the quarter, SPARC recognised income of Rs. 184.00 crore in the previous financial year related to the PRV, according to the notes accompanying the financial results. The voucher was sold by April 30, 2026 for USD 195 million, with the transaction accounted for as a non-monetary government grant under Ind AS 20.
