Canadian specialty pharmaceutical company Spektus Pharma and Austrian pharmaceutical firm GEBRO Holding GmbH have entered into a strategic global partnership to commercialise ActraFlex, a novel twice-daily extended-release formulation of tramadol and paracetamol for pain management.
The partnership brings together Spektus’ patented AmyloFlex drug-delivery technology and GEBRO’s established Diliban tramadol/paracetamol brand to develop a differentiated formulation designed to deliver sustained drug release with a more convenient twice-daily dosing schedule.
Under the agreement, the companies will divide global commercialisation responsibilities across key international markets. GEBRO will lead commercialisation and supply in Europe and selected Rest of the World (RoW) markets, with Spain serving as its primary market, backed by Diliban's existing regulatory and commercial presence.
Spektus, meanwhile, will spearhead commercialisation and supply across North America, South America and selected RoW markets through its established network of regional pharmaceutical partners.
The agreement provides both companies with an expanded international footprint, combining GEBRO’s established presence in pain management with Spektus’ proprietary formulation technology and global commercialisation network.
“Our partnership with GEBRO highlights the potential of Spektus’ proprietary AmyloFlex technology to create differentiated specialty medicines from established products and brands. Building on GEBRO’s successful commercialization of Diliban in Europe, we see strong commercial potential for ActraFlex across the Americas and selected markets in Africa and Asia.” said Zarvaan Merchant, CEO of Spektus Pharma.
“GEBRO brings deep expertise in pain management and a strong foundation with Diliban in Europe. Together with Spektus’ established commercialization partner network across the Americas and other international markets, we believe ActraFlex has the potential to become an important global product in pain management,” said Christian Kollenz, managing director of Gebro Holding.
The partnership establishes a common global commercialisation framework under which both companies will drive regulatory and commercial launches within their respective territories, supported by a shared product platform and international strategy.
