The request stemmed from a 2024 lawsuit by Rampart alleging Egg Medical had infringed its patent

Egg Medical announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a final rejection of all claims in U.S. Patent No. 11,660,056 held by Rampart IC for a radiation shielding device. This decision follows a reexamination request from Egg Medical, arguing that the patent covered previously invented technology—some dating back to the 1960s.

The request stemmed from a 2024 lawsuit by Rampart alleging Egg Medical had infringed its patent. After two prior rejections, a federal judge paused the lawsuit pending the USPTO’s decision. In July 2025, the USPTO issued a final rejection, citing multiple prior inventions—two from Egg Medical.

“Egg Medical never sold any product covered by Rampart’s patent claims,” said Robert F. Wilson, MD, CEO of Egg Medical. “We respect intellectual property, and the USPTO’s decision validates our position.”

Gavin Philipps, Chief Commercial Officer, added: “Rampart’s claims hurt our business, with some of their sales team implying we infringed the patent. We’re relieved the USPTO has clearly and repeatedly rejected those claims.”

Rampart IC can still respond or appeal, but after three rounds and a sweeping final rejection, its options are limited.
