With R&D spending reaching 8.4% of revenue, Zydus’ strategy is focused on combining its established pharma base with innovation, specialty medicines, biosimilars and new healthcare businesses

Zydus Lifesciences is strengthening its position as an innovation-led pharmaceutical company, with an expanding novel drug pipeline, growing US specialty business and investments across biosimilars, vaccines, MedTech and biologics manufacturing.

In its investor presentation ahead of meetings with investors from August 24–26, the Ahmedabad-based company highlighted US$ 3.02 billion in FY26 pharma revenue, alongside US$ 959 million in EBITDA and US$ 257 million in R&D investment.

The company said its growth strategy is increasingly shifting beyond traditional generics, with more than 55% of revenue coming from branded businesses.

At the centre of its innovation strategy is a portfolio of novel chemical entities. Saroglitazar, being developed for primary biliary cholangitis, has an NDA under priority review with the US FDA.

Desidustat has secured marketing approval in China through a partner, while usnoflast is undergoing mid-stage clinical development for ALS and ulcerative colitis.

Zydus is also building scale in biosimilars, with 16 products approved and 15 launched in India and a 13-product pipeline. The company has highlighted Tishtha, its nivolumab biosimilar, as a key addition to its portfolio.

The company is simultaneously increasing its exposure to the US specialty market. Its US Specialty business accounted for more than 10% of North America sales in Q1 FY27, supported by 505(b)(2) development, licensing agreements and acquisitions.

Zydus said its rare disease portfolio is expanding, while its broader US strategy includes investments in specialty products and complex therapies.

Beyond pharmaceuticals, the company is scaling its Amplitude Surgical MedTech platform following its acquisition in Europe, with plans to expand into orthopaedics, cardiology and nephrology. It is also evaluating opportunities in the biologics CDMO space using manufacturing infrastructure in California.
