Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital has announced that Dr Kaustav Talapatra, Senior Director of Radiation Oncology, has been nominated as the International Ambassador for the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

Dr Talapatra is among the first from India to receive this prestigious recognition, marking a major milestone in the country’s leadership in advanced, evidence-based cancer care.

The nomination will forge a strategic link between ASTRO and the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI). In his new role, Dr Talapatra will spearhead efforts to expand joint academic initiatives, foster international exchanges and fellowships, and develop structured learning pathways for emerging radiation oncologists across India.

“This honour is both humbling and deeply motivating. As ASTRO’s International Ambassador from India, my focus will be on building sustainable academic bridges and ensuring that global advances in radiation oncology translate into tangible benefits for our patients at home and our young oncologists,” said Dr Talapatra.

A pioneer in elevating global oncology standards in India, Dr Talapatra played a key role in launching ‘Best of ASTRO’ in India, giving practitioners access to cutting-edge research from the annual ASTRO conference in the United States.

In a message highlighting the importance of the role, Dr Vivek Kavadi, CEO of ASTRO, said, “The ambassador programme marks the beginning of a significant new chapter of cooperation between ASTRO and AROI, with the potential to profoundly enhance oncology education and clinical practice in India.”

Echoing this, Dr SN Senapati, President of AROI, added, “This partnership will empower radiation oncologists across both organisations and ultimately translate into more equitable care for cancer patients. The ASTRO ambassador appointment and AROI’s engagement will foster innovation and help shape the future of radiation oncology.”

Dr Vivek Talaulikar, Head – Western Region, Max Healthcare, also praised the achievement: “Dr Talapatra’s nomination is a landmark moment for Max Healthcare and for the new generation of oncologists. It affirms our belief that Indian clinicians can shape global standards of care and inspires younger doctors to pursue excellence, innovation, and compassionate cancer treatment for the masses.”
