Prof. Gobardhan Das appointed to NITI Aayog; PM Modi commends his contributions to R&D

His appointment is expected to strengthen scientific input in policy discussions across public health, biotech, and translational research


In a move underscoring the growing role of scientific expertise in policymaking, noted immunologist Gobardhan Das has been appointed to NITI Aayog.

Prof. Das, a leading figure in immunology and host–pathogen biology, is widely recognised for his contributions to understanding immune responses in infectious diseases and inflammation. 

Prof. Gobardhan Das is currently the Director of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Bhopal (IISER Bhopal). Prior to assuming this position, Prof. Das was working as a Professor and Chair of Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.  

His appointment is expected to bring deeper scientific insight into national policy discussions, particularly in areas such as public health, infectious disease preparedness, biotechnology innovation, and translational research.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Prof. Das and appluaded his journey, marked by tireless dedication and humility. PM Modi highlighted hs invaluable contributions in public health, science, and innovation.

Prof. Das completed his doctorate (Ph.D.) in immunology - host pathogen relationship from the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh in 1997. He has been associated with reputed professional organizations such as the Molecular Immunology Forum and the Guha Research Council.

Prof. Das also holds editorial positions as an associate editor in various prestigious journals. He has served in many important decision-making committees. He has served in various task force in DBT, DST and ICMR.
