Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has called for accelerating the adoption of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), saying the next phase should focus on maximizing the use of India's rapidly expanding digital health infrastructure to support the country's journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047.

Chairing the third meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG), Nadda reviewed the progress of the flagship initiative and outlined the roadmap for strengthening India's digital health ecosystem.

The meeting was attended by senior policymakers, including Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Union Ministers of State Prataprao Jadhav, Anupriya Patel and Jitin Prasada, along with representatives from NITI Aayog, the National Health Authority (NHA), the Ministry of AYUSH, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and state governments.

Highlighting the role of digital public infrastructure in transforming healthcare delivery, Nadda said technology must continue to improve access to quality healthcare while ensuring secure, consent-based access to health records and a more inclusive, citizen-centric healthcare system.

The Mission Steering Group noted that the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has evolved into one of the world's largest digital health ecosystems.

More than 93.95 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers have been created, over 105 crore health records have been digitally linked, 5.33 lakh health facilities and 9.85 lakh healthcare professionals have been registered on national digital health registries, while 2.72 lakh healthcare facilities have adopted ABDM-enabled software.

The platform has also generated nearly 24 crore Scan & Register tokens, significantly reducing outpatient registration time and enabling seamless, consent-based exchange of health information across healthcare providers.

The committee reviewed progress on decisions taken during its previous meeting, including strengthening state-level implementation, expanding capacity-building programmes, integrating digital health platforms with government schemes, increasing private sector participation, and promoting international collaboration in digital health.
