Former DCGI and now advisor to UP CM highlights medical device growth, healthcare expansion, and investment opportunities in the state
Uttar Pradesh is rapidly positioning itself as a major growth engine for India’s healthcare and medical device sectors, driven by policy support, infrastructure development, and increasing investments, according to Dr. G.N. Singh, Advisor to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath.
“The state is targeting sustained annual growth of 3–4% as part of its broader ambition to contribute to a trillion-dollar economy. UP is the “growth engine” for the country’s healthcare and industrial development,” said Dr. Singh.
The former Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) spoke as a chief guest at the launch of advanced paediatric orthopaedic surgical equipment at Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida on May 07, 2026. The initiative supported through Healthium MedTech’s CSR initiative is being implemented by Plan International India Chapter.
Speaking on the evolving healthcare ecosystem, Dr. Singh noted that the medical devices sector is witnessing nearly 30% growth, reflecting rising domestic demand and expanding manufacturing capabilities. He also highlighted discussions around large-scale investments in the state, including projects estimated at around Rs 350 crore.
On healthcare infrastructure, Dr. Singh said the government is committed to strengthening access to quality healthcare services across districts. He stressed that every district should have access to tertiary healthcare and e-clinic facilities to improve patient care delivery and accessibility.
He also highlighted increasing international collaboration in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, including partnerships with Japan and expanding global recognition for Indian standards. Referring to the Indian Pharmacopoeia, he said it has now gained recognition in nearly 30 countries, strengthening India’s global pharmaceutical standing.
Dr. Singh further underlined the importance of innovation, incubation, and regulatory collaboration involving organisations such as Central Drugs Standard Organization (CDSCO) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) to accelerate healthcare and medtech growth in the country.
Appreciating Healthium MedTech’s contributions to healthcare infrastructure, he invited the company to explore manufacturing investments in Uttar Pradesh as the state continues to expand its healthcare and medtech ecosystem.
