New filtration lines will boost global drug supply and strengthen India’s role in Merck’s manufacturing network
Merck has expanded its manufacturing facility in Peenya, Bengaluru, adding new production lines for filtration hardware systems in 2025 and Pellicon® 2 Ultrafiltration Cassettes in 2026. The investment is aimed at enhancing supply reliability for customers in India and global markets, particularly for products critical to the manufacturing of life-saving medicines and vaccines.
“These products are essential to producing life-saving medicines and vaccines,” said Tony Qiu, Head of APAC Operations, Life Science Business, Merck. “By expanding manufacturing in India, we are strengthening global supply chains while also supporting local innovation and skills development.”
Pellicon® 2 ultrafiltration cassettes are widely used in bioprocessing and downstream purification workflows, supporting high-quality filtration across pharmaceutical and life sciences applications. Merck said the Peenya facility, which has served as a global hub for filtration hardware production since 2006, has steadily expanded its capabilities, including the addition of consumable manufacturing such as prefilter cartridges in 2022.
The latest expansion further reinforces India’s strategic importance in Merck’s global manufacturing network, while also aligning with the government’s Make in India push to strengthen advanced manufacturing and local value creation in healthcare and life sciences.
