The new Bioprocess Design Center will serve as a cutting-edge scale-up hub for biologics and vaccine manufacturing

Global science leader Thermo Fisher Scientific has opened two major facilities in Hyderabad’s Genome Valley. This marks a significant expansion of India’s life sciences infrastructure and strengthening Telangana’s ambitions to become a global biotech powerhouse.

The new Bioprocess Design Center (BDC) — built in partnership with the Government of Telangana and supported by India’s Department of Biotechnology — will serve as a cutting-edge scale-up hub for biologics and vaccine manufacturing. Equipped for bench-to-pilot workflows, the center enables rapid prototyping, process optimization, and scale-up across cell culture, microbial fermentation, purification, and analytical testing.

Alongside it, the Customer Experience Center (CEC) has been launched as a hands-on collaboration space for scientists, startups, and industry professionals. Showcasing more than 50 integrated workflows across 20+ applications — including cell and gene therapy, mRNA, oncology, proteomics, and analytical sciences — the center provides access to Thermo Fisher’s flagship technologies and co-development opportunities.

Together, the two centers are expected to support 200–250 researchers annually, offering advanced training, technology access, and programs that accelerate innovation across bioprocessing, healthcare, clean energy, semiconductors, and analytical sciences.

Telangana Industries and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu said the launch aligns with the state’s Life Sciences Mission and its goal of attracting Rs. 1 lakh crore in investments by 2030. “Thermo Fisher’s new centers bring global capabilities that strengthen our ecosystem. These facilities create opportunities for collaboration and skill-building, reinforcing our vision of making Telangana the life sciences capital of the world,” he said.

The opening also underscores Thermo Fisher’s broader commitment to India.

“India’s life sciences sector is at an inflection point,” said Tony Acciarito, President for Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa. “These new centres reinforce our commitment to supporting the region’s growth through meaningful collaborations that help researchers and industry partners move from ideas to impact faster.”

Srinath Venkatesh, Managing Director for India and South Asia, added: “We are building a sustainable ecosystem that integrates talent, infrastructure, and cutting-edge technology. These centers reflect our vision to be the preferred partner for innovation, development, and manufacturing in the country.”

Thermo Fisher has invested Rs 85–90 crore in the two facilities, deepening its expanding footprint in India’s rapidly growing life sciences market.
