Once fully deployed, the integration is expected to give 4,700 clinicians across Flatiron’s network of 1,600 community-based cancer care locations in the United States streamlined access to Quest’s advanced oncology services

Quest Diagnostics is making it easier for cancer care teams to access advanced diagnostic insights by integrating its cutting-edge oncology testing services into Flatiron Health’s OncoEMR electronic health record (EHR) platform.

Through a new pilot program with American Oncology Network (AON) and other community oncology providers, Quest is combining its Haystack MRD circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) test and Comprehensive Genomic Profiling services for solid tumor cancers with OncoEMR, giving clinicians faster access to critical molecular testing within their existing workflows.

The move positions Quest as the largest clinical reference laboratory to integrate oncology testing into OncoEMR through the platform’s opt-in OncoEMR Molecular Profiling Integration (MPI) ordering feature, which is designed to support the complex requirements of comprehensive molecular testing.

Once fully deployed, the integration is expected to give 4,700 clinicians across Flatiron’s network of 1,600 community-based cancer care locations in the United States streamlined access to Quest’s advanced oncology services.

"At Flatiron, we're focused on helping oncology teams get the answers they need to deliver the best possible care," said Quincy Weatherspoon, Chief Network Officer, US Point of Care, Flatiron Health.

"By integrating Quest's advanced oncology services directly into existing workflows, we're making it easier for physicians to access critical testing insights without adding complexity to their day. This collaboration helps reduce administrative burden so clinicians can spend less time navigating processes and more time focused on caring for patients with cancer."

Molecular oncology testing can involve analysis of hundreds of genetic biomarkers, creating challenges in test ordering, workflow management, and interpretation of complex reports. The OncoEMR MPI integration is designed to simplify that process by enabling providers to establish Quest service accounts faster, order tests with fewer steps, and receive clearer reports directly within their daily EHR workflows.

The pilot program is already underway, allowing select providers to order Quest tests and receive results through OncoEMR MPI. AON is among the first participants, with nearly 200 of its sites now able to access the capability. AON, a leader in community oncology, includes more than 350 providers practicing across 21 states.

Quest plans to expand the full OncoEMR MPI integration nationwide during the second half of the year.

"At AON, our aim is to provide comprehensive support, ancillary services and practice management benefits to help community physicians to make cancer care better. Empowering them to use OncoEMR MPI via Quest Diagnostics is an important step in that mission," said Brian Mulherin, Medical Director at AON.

"Under this arrangement, our rapidly growing network of physicians can quickly and easily order Quest's innovative cancer tests, such as Haystack MRD, to help guide patient care."

Through the pilot, oncology providers gain access to some of Quest’s most advanced cancer testing solutions, including Haystack MRD, a highly accurate ctDNA-based minimal residual disease test designed for solid tumor cancers.
