Programme aims to offer lifesaving heart surgeries to underprivileged children with congenital and critical heart diseases
Reinforcing its commitment to equitable access to advanced healthcare, Sarvodaya Hospital, Sector 8, Faridabad, has announced a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide 100 free paediatric cardiac surgeries for underprivileged children diagnosed with congenital and other critical heart diseases.
The programme is designed to ensure that children from economically weaker families receive timely, lifesaving cardiac treatment without financial barriers.
The announcement follows the successful completion of the hospital's previous CSR initiative, under which 100 free paediatric cardiac surgeries were performed over the past year, offering a new lease on life to children and their families. Encouraged by the impact of the programme, the hospital has extended the initiative to benefit another 100 children.
Congenital heart disease is among the most common birth defects globally, affecting approximately 8 to 10 out of every 1,000 live births. Although many of these conditions are treatable through timely surgical intervention, thousands of children in India continue to miss lifesaving treatment due to financial constraints, delayed diagnosis and limited access to specialised paediatric cardiac care.
Under the CSR programme, eligible children diagnosed with congenital or other critical heart conditions will receive comprehensive evaluation and cardiac surgery free of cost.
The procedures will be performed by the hospital's paediatric cardiac team led by Dr. Jay Relan, Senior Consultant – Paediatric Cardiology & Congenital Heart Disease, and Dr. Anupam Das, Senior Consultant & Head – Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising paediatric cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, cardiac anaesthetists, intensivists, nurses and rehabilitation specialists.
Sarvodaya Hospital's Department of Paediatric Cardiac Sciences provides comprehensive care for children with congenital and acquired heart diseases, from diagnosis through surgery and recovery.
The department has performed more than 1,000 paediatric cardiac surgeries, treating conditions such as atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and other complex congenital heart defects.
