Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh has launched Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy, becoming the first multi-speciality hospital in Delhi NCR to introduce the minimally invasive treatment for men experiencing Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate.

BPH is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that commonly affects ageing men. Prevalence studies in India indicate that around 25% of men aged 40-49, 37% of those aged 50-60 and more than 50% of men above 60 experience BPH-related symptoms.

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy uses controlled steam to target and shrink excess prostate tissue, helping relieve urinary obstruction. The minimally invasive procedure can typically be performed as a day-care treatment without general anaesthesia, enabling faster recovery and an earlier return to routine activities.

The therapy may offer an alternative to conventional surgical procedures and long-term medication for appropriately selected patients. According to five-year clinical data cited by Fortis, sustained symptom relief was observed, with 4.4% of patients requiring follow-up surgery. The procedure is also associated with a lower risk of sexual dysfunction compared with some conventional surgical approaches.
