Akums has expanded beyond pharmaceutical manufacturing by acquiring Oriflame India's manufacturing business for Rs 56 crore
Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, India's largest Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO), has reported a stellar financial performance for the second quarter of FY27.
This, with profit after tax (PAT) soaring 168% year-on-year to Rs 115 crore, driven by robust CDMO growth, stronger operating margins and improved business performance.
The company's consolidated revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, climbed 31.9% to Rs 1,342 crore, against Rs 1,018 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. EBITDA more than doubled, surging 106% to Rs 195 crore from Rs 94 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded sharply to 14.5% from 9.3%.
PAT jumped to Rs 115 crore from Rs 43 crore a year ago, with the PAT margin nearly doubling to 8.4% from 4.1%, underscoring a significant improvement in profitability.
Akums sustained its growth trajectory in the first half of FY27, with revenue rising 22.9% to Rs 2,509 crore, compared with Rs 2,042 crore in H1 FY26.
EBITDA surged 65.3% to Rs 369 crore from Rs 223 crore, while PAT doubled to Rs 216 crore against Rs 107 crore in the year-ago period. EBITDA margin improved to 14.7% from 10.9%, reflecting stronger operational efficiency and improved profitability.
The company's core CDMO business remained the biggest growth engine, posting a 38.6% year-on-year jump in Q2 revenue to Rs 1,115 crore, compared with Rs 804 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
CDMO EBITDA nearly doubled, rising 99.6% to Rs 168 crore from Rs 84 crore. The strong performance was driven by healthy double-digit volume growth, sustained customer demand and deeper penetration in the Indian pharmaceutical market.
Commenting on the results, Sanjeev Jain, Managing Director, said, “We remain committed to strengthening our position as India's largest CDMO player. The demand environment continues to remain robust, reflecting the growing importance of reliable manufacturing partners.
"We are continuously investing in our manufacturing infrastructure, and strengthening our capabilities to address the evolving requirements of our partners. Our focus remains on operational excellence, consistent quality and building long-term relationships based on trust."
Sandeep Jain, Managing Director, added, “Our ambition is to establish Akums as a globally recognised CDMO player, with capabilities that extend across markets, dosage forms and therapeutic segments. We are working towards this vision by strengthening our product pipeline for global markets and expanding our manufacturing capabilities.
"With a robust pipeline of over 30+ products for European markets, we see significant opportunities to broaden our offerings and deepen our engagement with global partners. Our focus is on building a diversified and sustainable business that combines manufacturing scale, formulation expertise and global quality standards to support our long-term growth aspirations.”
In a significant diversification move, Akums has expanded beyond pharmaceutical manufacturing by acquiring Oriflame India's manufacturing business for Rs 56 crore through its wholly owned subsidiary, Pure & Cure Healthcare Private Limited.
The acquisition covers two manufacturing facilities in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, and Noida, Uttar Pradesh, along with a leased warehouse in Noida.
The deal marks Akums' entry into colour cosmetics manufacturing and strengthens its presence in skincare and wellness products. It also opens the door to the fast-growing beauty and personal care segment, allowing the company to leverage its established manufacturing capabilities and expertise to tap new market opportunities.
With its core CDMO business firing on all cylinders, improving profitability and an expanding manufacturing footprint, Akums is pursuing a broader growth strategy centred on operational excellence, portfolio expansion and international market opportunities.
The company's pipeline of more than 30 products for European markets signals its ambition to strengthen its global CDMO presence, while the Oriflame acquisition provides a strategic foothold in the expanding beauty and personal care industry.
The latest results highlight Akums' twin-track strategy: consolidating its leadership in pharmaceutical manufacturing while building new growth engines across adjacent manufacturing segments.
