Company evaluating legal options after pricing regulator seeks recovery related to Symbicort Turbuhaler for 2016–2025 period
AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited has received a demand notice from the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) alleging overcharging under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013, involving an amount of Rs. 148.66 crore, including interest.
In a regulatory filing, the company said the demand notice, received on July 29, 2026, pertains to its Symbicort Turbuhaler 160/4.5 inhaler.
The NPPA has alleged overcharging for the period between May 2016 and November 2025 and has directed the company to pay Rs. 148,65,83,590, inclusive of interest calculated up to August 20, 2026, within 30 days of receiving the notice.
The demand notice follows a show-cause notice issued by the pricing regulator on September 11, 2025. AstraZeneca said it is currently evaluating the demand notice and appropriate legal actions.
The company disclosed that the financial impact of the notice is Rs. 148.66 crore, including interest. No further operational impact has been disclosed.
The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
