Amcor is stepping up its healthcare packaging capabilities with the installation of advanced automated manufacturing lines and vision inspection systems at its Mundelein facility, aimed at improving reliability, traceability and safety for medical packaging.
The investment targets some of the most critical causes of sterile barrier failures, including defective seals, pinholes and contamination—issues that can contribute to medical product recalls.
Amcor’s new vision inspection systems examine 100% of healthcare bags, checking both film-to-film and film-to-Tyvek seals for defects. The system also serializes production data to individual bags, providing end-to-end manufacturing traceability and greater visibility into package quality.
The upgrade strengthens an already vertically integrated operation. The Mundelein facility controls the full production chain, from blown film and printing to laminating, slitting and converting. That integration is designed to improve efficiency, consistency and supply reliability while reducing the risk of costly packaging failures for healthcare manufacturers.
“The investment in our Mundelein, Ill. facility underscores Amcor’s commitment to providing unmatched quality, service and supply chain security to our healthcare customers,” said Art Castro, vice president of Amcor Flexibles Healthcare in North America. “The installation of cutting-edge equipment reflects Amcor’s continued leadership in the healthcare industry.”
The investment reinforces Amcor’s broader global healthcare packaging network and its focus on combining automation, rigorous inspection and vertical integration to deliver more reliable packaging for medical products.
