Amitabh Dube appointed OPPI President for two-year term

Dube is Country President and Managing Director of Novartis India and brings nearly three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry across India and international markets

The Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI), which represents global research-based pharmaceutical companies in India, has appointed Amitabh Dube as its President for a two-year term effective September 10, 2026.

Dube is Country President and Managing Director of Novartis India and brings nearly three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry across India and international markets. Prior to his current role, he served as Country President of Novartis Vietnam, where he also chaired the country’s leading pharmaceutical industry association.

Speaking on his appointment, Amitabh Dube, President, OPPI, said, “It is a privilege to lead OPPI at a time when India's healthcare landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. The innovative pharmaceutical industry has an important role to play in improving patient outcomes, advancing scientific innovation and supporting India's emergence as a global life sciences powerhouse.”

Dube succeeds Bhushan Akshikar, Vice President & Managing Director, GSK Pharmaceuticals who served as OPPI President for the previous two years.

Dube’s appointment comes at a time when India’s pharmaceutical sector is seeking to strengthen innovation, improve access to advanced therapies and expand the country’s role in the global life sciences ecosystem.
