Two-day long National Health Summit highlighted progress under the NHM and called for data-driven and SDG-aligned health system reforms

The second and concluding day of the two-day National Summit featured detailed technical deliberations on the findings of the 17th Common Review Mission (CRM) under the National Health Mission (NHM), a key mechanism for independent, evidence-based assessment of public health systems.

The first day of the Summit titled, “Innovation and Inclusivity: Best Practices Shaping India’s Health Future”, showcased best practices and innovative interventions implemented across States and Union Territories.

These sessions enabled cross-learning on scalable and replicable models in primary healthcare strengthening, digital health solutions, maternal and child health, and non-communicable disease management.

Presentations on new and ongoing Ministry initiatives further helped align State and UT strategies with national priorities and strengthen implementation at the field level.

On the concluding day, structured technical sessions presented key insights from CRM visits across 17 States and Union Territories. The findings highlighted steady progress in several priority areas, including the operationalisation of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, expansion of comprehensive primary healthcare services, increased uptake of digital health platforms, and improved delivery of maternal and child health services. Advances were also noted in non-communicable disease screening and management, as well as care delivery via teleconsultation.

Additional Secretary & Mission Director of NHM, Aradhna Patnaik, appreciated the progress States and UTs made under the National Health Mission. She emphasised the need to gradually shift focus from short-term achievements to medium- and long-term health system strengthening, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.

The Summit concluded with a reaffirmation of the Government’s commitment to cooperative federalism and evidence-based health system strengthening. The CRM was recognised as a vital instrument for accountability, learning, and policy refinement.

The deliberations reinforced a shared resolve to build a more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready public health system responsive to India’s evolving healthcare needs.
