The patent further strengthens company’s growing intellectual property portfolio in oncology and reflects the company’s efforts to expand its research and development capabilities beyond its traditional business areas
Godavari Biorefineries Limited has secured a patent from the European Patent Office for its invention titled “Pharmaceutical Composition and a Process to Prepare the Same.”
The patent covers a pharmaceutical composition combining novel anti-cancer compounds with a solubilising agent, along with the process for preparing the formulation.
The patented composition is designed to improve the solubility and bioavailability of the active compounds, potentially enhancing their therapeutic efficacy. The formulation has applications in the treatment of various cancers, including breast and prostate cancers, particularly through oral administration.
The European patent further strengthens Godavari Biorefineries’ growing intellectual property portfolio in oncology and reflects the company’s efforts to expand its research and development capabilities beyond its traditional business areas.
“In oncology research, identifying a promising compound is only one part of the challenge. How that compound is formulated can determine how effectively it can be developed for therapeutic use. Our research has focused on improving the solubility and bioavailability of these compounds, and the grant of this European patent is an important recognition of that work,” said Dr Sangeeta Srivastava, Executive Director, Godavari Biorefineries Limited.
Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director, Godavari Biorefineries Limited, said the company’s innovation strategy is focused on advancing health, wellbeing and sustainability while creating long-term value.
“Our approach to innovation has always been guided by a larger purpose, to advance health, wellbeing and sustainability while creating lasting value for all. The Sanskrit mantra ‘सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः’, meaning ‘Health for All’, reflects this purpose and reminds us that the true value of innovation lies in its ability to improve lives,” he said.
Somaiya added that as the company expands beyond its traditional businesses, investments in R&D are helping it build capabilities in areas where science and technology can address meaningful societal needs.
“This European patent is an important milestone in that journey, strengthening our intellectual property and opening possibilities for developing solutions with potential applications in healthcare. For us, innovation is meaningful when it creates sustainable opportunities for the business while also contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future for society,” he added.
The patent marks another step in Godavari Biorefineries’ efforts to build a research-led innovation platform, with oncology emerging as an area of potential growth alongside its established businesses.
