Digital platform aims to expand access to palliative care through teleconsultations, training, community engagement and global knowledge-sharing
Malabar Group has partnered with the Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM), Kozhikode, to launch Malabar Care Connect, a technology-driven initiative designed to expand access to palliative care through digital platforms, training programmes, community participation, and knowledge-sharing.
The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations at the IPM campus in Kozhikode.
The agreement was signed by M. P. Ahammad, Chairman of Malabar Group, and Sreekumar PC on behalf of the Institute of Palliative Medicine, in the presence of senior leaders from both organizations.
Malabar Care Connect has been conceived as an integrated digital platform that combines care delivery, education, training, and public awareness.
The initiative will utilize technology infrastructure including teleconsultation facilities, an audio-visual helpdesk, video conferencing systems, a recording studio, and an online learning platform to improve access to palliative care services and educational resources.
The initiative also plans to establish a digital archive of patient life stories, preserving personal experiences and narratives as part of a broader effort to document the human dimensions of illness, caregiving, and compassionate care.
Infrastructure support for Malabar Care Connect has been provided by the Indian Institute of Architects Kerala Chapter and the Bengaluru-based Samagata Foundation.
M. P. Ahammad said, “The Institute of Palliative Medicine has built a model that has earned recognition far beyond India, and we are privileged to partner with an organisation that has contributed so significantly to this field.”
“Our objective is to help expand access to care, strengthen caregiver support, and use technology to make knowledge, training, and assistance available to more people. We see this as a long-term commitment towards building stronger systems of care within society,” added Ahammad.
Suresh Kumar, Founder Director of the Institute of Palliative Medicine, said, “Malabar Care Connect creates an opportunity to extend both care and knowledge to larger sections of society through digital platforms and community participation.”
