Intuitive India, the India arm of Intuitive Surgical, a global technology leader in minimally invasive care and the pioneer of robotic-assisted surgery (RAS), has joined hands with the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, to familiarize and build awareness about robotic-assisted surgery among the surgical fraternity.

As a part of Intuitive’s roving robot programme, and JNMC’s annual conference, they have jointly conducted a four-day hands-on workshop for surgeons and medical students in Aligarh. More than 100 students and surgeons from JNMC, Aligarh, and other medical colleges in the state were a part of this program organized by the department of surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College- Aligarh Muslim University, in association with the Association of Surgeons of Aligarh (ASA).

While inaugurating the workshop, Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, said, " I am glad to see many surgeons and medical students coming forward to be a part of these kinds of workshops. These programmes will help us to better our healthcare infrastructure in the state. Adopting new technologies like robotic-assisted surgery will go a long way in overcoming the current geographical challenges we face in terms of access to hospitals in nearby states for advanced treatment.’’

The organizing committee had formulated a comprehensive programme to ensure extensive hands-on learning for the departments of surgery, urology & obstetrics, and gynaecology & CTVS. The workshop was carried out on Intuitive’s latest da Vinci Xi technology. Demonstration of advanced technologies for real-time visual assistant, dual grip technology, and suturing & simulation exercises were also a part of this workshop.

Commenting on this, Mandeep Singh Kumar, VP and General Manager, Intuitive India, said, "The execution of Robotic-Assisted Surgery familiarization and education programs is a key step towards nurturing adopters of advanced surgical technologies by enhancing knowledge and awareness about RAS. In this context, the Intuitive Roving Robot Program aims to support India’s surgical healthcare landscape's evolution towards potentially better clinical outcomes. We are looking forward to conducting more such programs across the country."
