BPL Medical Technologies, a leading Indian medical equipment brand with a 50-year legacy under the BPL Group, has announced it will fund a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) department at Sri S Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, starting next academic year.

With the AI department launching next year and the Innovation & Incubation Centre now operational, Sri S Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College is poised to enhance technology-led learning, entrepreneurship, and applied research, aligning student outcomes with evolving industry and societal needs.

The announcement came during the inauguration of the college’s Innovation & Incubation Centre and Health Club, attended by over 1,000 students, faculty, and guests.

The move underlines BPL Medical Technologies’ commitment to bridging industry and academia while fostering future-ready education.

The inauguration, held at Veluchamy Auditorium, was graced by Shravan Subramanyam, Managing Director of BPL Medical Technologies, as Chief Guest, and Thiru K Guruswamy, CEO, as Guest of Honour.

The new Innovation & Incubation Centre will support student entrepreneurship and early-stage ideas through mentorship and infrastructure, while the Health Club aims to promote student and community well-being. Shravan and Guruswamy engaged directly with students presenting their projects, offering feedback to help them achieve their goals.

The CSR-supported AI department will provide students exposure to emerging technologies and industry-relevant applications, reinforcing BPL Medical Technologies’ investment in long-term capability building and next-generation academic disciplines.

Addressing the students, Shravan Subramanyam said, “AI may seem like just another tech component today, but it will soon define how we live and work, much like how the internet was once perceived.

"As students preparing for that future, it is important to understand this technology deeply while ensuring it remains guided by human judgement and ethics. When applied responsibly, AI has the potential to create meaningful solutions that contribute to the well-being of humankind.”

Highlighting the need for purpose-driven innovation in healthcare, Thiru K. Guruswamy said, “Healthcare delivery is fundamental because a healthy life comes before everything else. When young minds begin by identifying real problems and build a strong intent to solve them, that intent naturally turns into passion.

"Today’s world is highly connected and information is available at our fingertips, offering opportunities and access that earlier generations did not have. Students must use these resources with confidence, make the most of this enabling environment and strive to create meaningful impact.”

The programme was presided over by K. Krishnaveni, Principal, in the presence of P Santhalakshmi, President, and Thiru TR Kannan, Secretary, along with other dignitaries, faculty members, and students.

Kannan, Secretary of the college, said, “The support from BPL Medical Technologies Private Limited comes at a pivotal time for the institution as we expand into emerging areas such as artificial intelligence.

"The new AI department and the Innovation & Incubation Centre will strengthen industry exposure, encourage student entrepreneurship and create pathways for applied learning aligned with future skill requirements.”
