The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has released an overview of its key 2025 recommendations on the authorisation and safety monitoring of veterinary medicines.
In a striking milestone, EMA recommended 30 veterinary medicines for marketing authorisation in 2025 – the highest number ever recorded, and the second year in a row to hit this peak.
Experts say this reflects both a sustained surge in veterinary medicine development and the positive impact of the Veterinary Medicines Regulation in driving innovation. The Regulation came into force in January 2022.
Among the 30 recommended medicines, 16 were vaccines, including seven approved under exceptional circumstances to respond to urgent animal health emergencies.
Notably, five of these vaccines were developed through a biotechnological process, highlighting the growing role of advanced science in veterinary care.
