The agreement marks another step in Lupin’s strategy to expand its specialty ophthalmology business through VISUfarma, following the company’s strategic acquisition of the eye-care specialist
Lupin Limited has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary VISUfarma B.V. has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Visus Therapeutics Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tenpoint Therapeutics Holding Limited, to commercialise YUVEZZI across key European markets.
Under the agreement, VISUfarma will hold exclusive rights for the regulatory activities, commercialisation, marketing, promotion, distribution and sale of YUVEZZI (carbachol and brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution) 2.75%/0.1% for the treatment of presbyopia in adults across the European Union, UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.
As part of the partnership, VISUfarma will also make a strategic investment in Visus Therapeutics. Tenpoint and Visus will be eligible for regulatory and commercial milestone payments, along with tiered royalties linked to net sales.
Vinita Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, Lupin, said, “We are delighted to partner with Tenpoint Therapeutics to bring a novel ophthalmic therapy that advances our Specialty Care strategy. Building on the strategic acquisition of VISUfarma, this partnership further strengthens our vision care franchise and expands our presence across key European markets.
“The addition of YUVEZZI underscores our commitment to broadening access to differentiated therapies, improving patient outcomes, and reinforcing our leadership in eye care across the Licensed Territories,” added Gupta.
“This exciting partnership marks an important step for Tenpoint as we continue our work to make YUVEZZI available for the millions of patients with presbyopia and eye care professionals around the world,” said Henric Bjarke, Chief Executive Officer, Tenpoint.
"Lupin’s strong commercial operations span major European markets, and its specialty ophthalmology company VISUfarma’s longstanding presence in eyecare makes them an excellent partner. We look forward to working together as we bring YUVEZZI to Europe,” added Biarke.
YUVEZZI is described as the first and only approved once-daily dual-agent eye drop for presbyopia. The product recently received U.S. FDA approval, with Tenpoint advancing its commercialisation in the United States.
Tenpoint has also submitted a marketing authorisation application in the UK through the MHRA’s International Recognition Procedure and plans to pursue regulatory applications in additional international markets.
