SkinMedica expands regenerative skincare line with new barrier-focused cream

SkinMedica says Barrier Calming Cream improved skin barrier support and reduced skin dryness by 30% after two weeks

SkinMedica is expanding its regenerative skincare portfolio with the launch of Barrier Calming Cream, a restorative moisturizer designed to soothe stressed skin while helping strengthen and restore the skin barrier.

The launch comes as consumers increasingly prioritize barrier health. According to a March 2024 Mintel report cited by the company, 70% of U.S. skincare consumers say they are more focused on protecting their skin barrier than they were a year ago.

"SkinMedica was a pioneer in regenerative skincare long before it became one of the industry's fastest-growing movements," said Nicole Mowad-Nassar, senior vice president, AbbVie and president, Global Allergan Aesthetics.

"With the launch of Barrier Calming Cream, we're continuing to advance our portfolio of science-backed solutions that meet consumers' growing focus on skin barrier health and support healthier-looking skin over time."

The new cream is built around two key ingredients: Calcium Strengthening Complex and Botanical Calming Complex. The company says the formula is designed to restore the skin barrier, reduce visible redness and lock in moisture by replenishing natural lipids.

In clinical testing, SkinMedica says Barrier Calming Cream improved skin barrier support and reduced skin dryness by 30% after two weeks.

"The skin barrier is your body's first line of defense against external stressors. When the barrier is compromised, skin can become dry and sensitive, and even the most powerful ingredients can't perform the way they are intended," said Prithwiraj Maitra, vice president, global skincare research and development, Allergan Aesthetics.

"The Barrier Calming Cream is clinically proven to help restore the skin barrier and support skin's retinol tolerance."

SkinMedica is also highlighting its recently launched HA5 Hydra Collagen Facial Mist with Vegan Collagen, an ultra-fine mist designed to be sprayed over skincare, makeup and sunscreen without leaving residue.

The mist combines five forms of hyaluronic acid with vegan Hydra Collagen. In company clinical testing, one application immediately increased skin hydration by 31%, while skin dryness improved by 62%.
