Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited (Star Health Insurance), India’s largest standalone health insurance provider, announced a significant milestone in senior citizen healthcare protection. The company has successfully covered 30 lakh active senior citizens and settled claims worth over Rs.11,500 crore over the past 18 years.

Launched in 2007, the Senior Citizen Red Carpet Policy was the first of its kind in India, specifically designed for individuals aged 60 and above. With India’s senior population now crossing 11 percent, the policy has played a vital role in addressing the unique healthcare needs of the elderly.

Star Health Insurance today offers a wide range of products for seniors, including Star Senior Citizen Red Carpet, Star Health Assure, Star Health Super Star, Star Comprehensive Insurance, and Star Family Health Optima. An Elder Care program under Star Flexi also provides comprehensive support—ranging from emergency care and daily healthcare needs to concierge services and engaging wellness activities.

With a network of over 14,500 hospitals offering cashless treatment and simplified onboarding, the company has improved access to quality healthcare for seniors across both urban and rural areas. Claims settled include planned surgeries, chronic illness management, and emergency hospitalisations, covering the wide spectrum of healthcare needs in later life.

Expressing gratitude, Anand Roy, MD & CEO, Star Health Insurance, said, “World Senior Citizens Day is a reminder of the respect and care we owe our elderly. At Star Health Insurance, we believe health insurance for seniors should offer more than coverage. It should provide confidence, dignity, and peace of mind. Our Senior Citizens plans are created with that purpose in mind, to make healthcare in later years accessible and stress-free.”

Key features of the Senior Citizen Red Carpet Policy include entry age of 60–75 years with lifelong renewals, sum insured options from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.25 lakhs, no pre-insurance medical screening (in most cases), home healthcare services, outpatient consultations, coverage for modern and AYUSH treatments, post-hospitalisation support, second medical opinions, compassionate travel benefits, and cashless access across Star Health’s extensive network.

With India’s ageing population expected to rise sharply, Star Health Insurance remains committed to evolving its solutions, leveraging technology and medical innovation to ensure senior citizens are protected, respected, and well cared for throughout their lives.
