Sun Pharma joins White House push on US drug pricing

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has joined a group of drugmakers at the White House to announce agreements with the US government aimed at expanding access to affordable medicines for millions of Americans.

Under its agreement, Sun Pharma will extend Most Favored Nation (MFN) pricing to state Medicaid programs and apply MFN pricing to future innovative medicine launches, the company said Tuesday.

In return, the agreement recognizes Sun Pharma’s investment in the US market by delaying Section 232 tariffs on innovative pharmaceutical products for more than two years. Other terms of the agreement remain confidential.

“Our mission is to reach people and touch lives by providing quality medicines across a patient’s entire treatment journey, from consumer health products to generics to innovative medicines,” said Rick Ascroft, North America CEO, Sun Pharma, who represented the company at the White House.

“The United States is a key area of investment and expansion for Sun Pharma across clinical development, sales and marketing, and both API and finished products manufacturing. We are proud to play our part in delivering the medicines that millions of American patients count on every day.”

The agreement comes as Sun Pharma deepens its footprint in the US, its largest market for innovative medicines and a key pillar of its long-term growth strategy. The U.S. accounts for about 27% of the company’s global revenue.

Sun Pharma entered the American market primarily through generics but has increasingly shifted toward innovative and specialty medicines. The company now ranks No. 2 by prescriptions in U.S. dermatology, with operations spanning dermatology and immunology, cutaneous oncology and ophthalmology, alongside its consumer health and generics businesses.

The company has also stepped up its U.S. investment through its definitive agreement earlier this year to acquire Organon & Co. for an enterprise value of $11.75 billion.

Sun Pharma said the acquisition underscores its commitment to American patients, healthcare providers and communities as it continues to expand its presence in the U.S. pharmaceutical market.

The company said it remains focused on expanding access to high-quality, affordable medicines in the US and globally.
