ten23 health successfully tests West Synchrony S1 PFS system on fill-finish lines

Early implementation of West Synchrony S1 platform aims to accelerate biologics and vaccine development while reducing manufacturing risk for biopharma partners

ten23 health, a global CDMO specializing in sterile fill-finish and advanced drug delivery systems, has successfully tested the operation of newly launched West Synchrony™ S1 prefillable syringe (PFS) system on its manufacturing equipment.

This development follows the global commercial launch of the West Synchrony S1 PFS system by West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc.. The platform integrates the syringe barrel, plunger, and needle shield or tip cap into a harmonized and verified system sourced from a single supplier.

By evaluating the syringe system early across its fill-finish operations, ten23 health aims to help biopharma companies adopt the platform more quickly for clinical and early commercial programs, reducing technical risks and shortening development timelines.

Hanns-Christian Mahler, Chief Enablement Officer at ten23 health, said, “Having already implemented and tested the West Synchrony S1 prefillable syringe system on our equipment, we are well positioned to support our partners with operational readiness. Early hands-on experience with new container systems is critical for de-risking development, particularly as combination products and home-based administration continue to grow.”

The West Synchrony S1 PFS system offers multiple configuration options for biologics and vaccines, including staked needle and Luer lock formats, as well as NovaPure® and FluroTec™ laminated plunger technologies. ten23 health’s evaluation focused on manufacturability, compatibility, and process robustness under representative fill-finish conditions.

As pharmaceutical companies navigate increasing regulatory and technical complexities, closer alignment between drug delivery platforms and manufacturing processes has become increasingly important. ten23 health stated that its early adoption and testing strategy is intended to help clients transition more efficiently from development to clinical supply using validated and commercially available delivery systems.

The company will also co-host an event with West Pharmaceutical Services at its Basel facility on May 4, demonstrating the filling of Synchrony syringes on its pilot filling line.
