The 2025 edition of the EdelGive Hurun list recognizes 24 exceptional women leaders for their philanthropic impact across critical areas
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Founder and Chairperson of Biocon Group, has been ranked among India's most generous women philanthropists by EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025. She has been recognized as the 2nd most generous woman for contributing ₹83 crore for philanthropic causes across Research and Development.
The 2025 edition of the EdelGive Hurun list recognizes 24 exceptional women leaders for their philanthropic impact across critical areas including ecosystem development, education, research and development, rural upliftment, skill training, water conservation, and social empowerment. Within this cohort, Mazumdar-Shaw’s recognition stands out for her unwavering belief in the power of science and innovation to create sustainable societal transformation.

The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 highlighted that Mazumdar-Shaw, 72, ranks second among women philanthropists for her dedicated support to science, research, and education. As the Founder and Chairperson of Biocon, she has consistently championed the mission of advancing healthcare access and medical research. Through Mazumdar Shaw Philanthropy (MSP), she has focused on strengthening academic and social institutions in India and globally, with the vision of building ecosystems that support breakthrough ideas with transformative impact. MSP’s mission spans scientific discovery, artistic expression, cultural preservation, and community-building—reflecting a holistic approach to advancing humanity.
The report also noted that the pharmaceutical sector contributed the highest number of philanthropists this year, representing 16 per cent of the list, followed by Software & Services, Automobile & Auto Components, and Chemicals & Petrochemicals, each accounting for 8 per cent.
