French bio-materials innovator Lactips and U.S.-based packaging pioneer SmartSolve have entered into a global strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the shift away from conventional plastic packaging.

 

The partnership builds on a collaboration launched in 2024 that took PureNil 0 — described as the world's first 100% plastic-free, dispersible, printable and flexible packaging substrate — from development to commercial scale in less than two years.

 

Approved for direct food contact, PureNil 0 is designed to disperse rapidly in water without leaving microplastic residue. The material is already being used by customers across beauty, personal care, food and beverage markets.

The companies said the new agreement will extend beyond PureNil 0, with a roadmap focused on developing the next generation of bio-based, plastic-free packaging solutions.

 

For Lactips, the deal also marks a major step in its international expansion as it seeks to accelerate adoption of natural, zero-waste packaging alternatives.
