Govt. issues draft amendment to remove cough syrups from Schedule K
Once finalized, cough syrups will no longer be available for over-the-counter sale

States exhorted to ensure rational use of cough syrups, particularly among children, as most coughs are self-limiting and do not require pharmacological treatment
The expiry date of almost all strips is rubber stamped vanish in a matter of 3 to 4 months, making the remaining tablets waste for subsequent use before expire date
