Company consolidates 100% stake in subsidiary as it sharpens focus on biologics and biosimilars
Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited has acquired the remaining 12.05% minority stake in its biopharmaceutical subsidiary Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Limited, making it a wholly owned subsidiary as part of a strategic move to strengthen its biologics and biosimilars business.
The minority stake, previously held by Dr. Sanjay Singh and other shareholders, has been acquired by Emcure, simplifying Gennova's ownership structure while aligning the company more closely with Emcure's long-term growth strategy in biologics.
Alongside the ownership consolidation, Samit Mehta will lead Gennova as it enters its next phase of growth. Under his leadership, the company will focus on expanding its biologics portfolio, including Elaxim/TENECTASE, Vintor, Xgrast®/PEGEX and Hamsyl, while advancing its biosimilars pipeline and adjacent therapeutic platforms. Gennova will continue to leverage its established mammalian and microbial biomanufacturing capabilities to drive innovation.
Satish Mehta, Managing Director and CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Sanjay Singh, who has led Gennova's scientific journey for nearly two decades.
"We thank Dr. Sanjay Singh for his nearly two decades of exceptional scientific leadership at Gennova. His stewardship has built platforms, products, and a culture that will continue to fulfil Gennova's mission of transforming healthcare. With this stake acquisition, we simplify Gennova's ownership, sharpen its strategic focus, and position it under Mr. Samit Mehta's leadership for its next phase of growth in biologics and biosimilars," he said.
Samit Mehta, Whole-Time Director and CEO of Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, said the company will continue to play a central role in Emcure's biologics strategy.
"As part of the One Emcure framework, Gennova will continue to anchor the Group's biologics and biosimilars capabilities. Our work will complement Emcure's broader R&D and pipeline priorities, with a focus on execution, quality and disciplined development across our chosen therapy areas," he said.
