Single Cell Discoveries (SCD), a specialist contract research organisation focused on discovery transcriptomics, has acquired TATAA Biocenter, a global provider of qPCR, bioanalytical services and molecular assay development, strengthening its capabilities across the drug discovery and development pathway.

The combination brings together approximately 50 scientists across SCD’s Utrecht operations and TATAA Biocenter’s Gothenburg site, serving pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic customers from discovery through validation and clinical development.

SCD brings expertise in single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, high-throughput RNA sequencing, bioinformatics and multi-omics, while TATAA contributes capabilities in qPCR, dPCR, proteomics, RNA and DNA sequencing, as well as GLP/GCLP-compliant bioanalysis.

The combined organisation will enable customers to progress molecular targets from discovery to validated, regulatory-ready results within the same CRO network. Targets identified through single-cell sequencing can be further assessed using spatial transcriptomics or proteomics and subsequently developed into qPCR or RNA-seq assays validated under GCLP or GLP standards.

“This is a natural fit,” said Mauro Muraro, CEO of Single Cell Discoveries. “Customers kept telling us the same thing: they loved working with us on discovery but had to go elsewhere to validate targets for a clinical program. TATAA closes that gap.”

Sofia Adolfsson, Scientific Officer of TATAA Biocenter, said the combination would bring together discovery capabilities with regulated molecular analysis.

“Scientifically, this offers discovery coupled with rigor,” she said. “SCD’s single-cell and spatial technologies generate exceptional insight, and our GLP/GCLP-compliant qPCR and assay development can now validate those findings — without customers switching providers, protocols, or data formats partway through a program.”

Existing TATAA customers will continue to work with the same teams, contacts, workflows and quality systems, with TATAA continuing to operate from Gothenburg. Combined services from both organisations will be available from September 2026.

Judith Vivie, COO, and Mauro Muraro, CEO, will lead the combined organisation, while the Gothenburg site will retain its local management and scientific and customer-facing teams.

Peter Batesko, Lead Director of SCD and Managing Partner of Care Equity, said the integration would help translate discoveries from single-cell and spatial omics into validated biomarker assays as clients advance towards clinical development.
