Dr. Reddy’s and Nestle Health Science launch Celevida GLP for optimized nutritional support

Clinical guidelines and expert consensus recommend 1.2–1.5 g/kg/day protein intake during therapy to help preserve muscle mass

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd and Nestlé India Limited, through their joint venture with Nestlé Health Science, have launched Celevida GLP+, a specialised nutrition product designed to support people undergoing GLP-1/GIP therapy for type 2 diabetes and obesity in India.

The launch comes as GLP-1 and dual GLP-1/GIP therapies rapidly reshape diabetes and obesity care—delivering strong weight-loss outcomes but also raising concerns around muscle loss and nutritional gaps.

Experts say the shift demands more than medication alone, calling for integrated care that includes targeted nutrition, monitoring, and long-term metabolic support.

Against this backdrop, Celevida GLP+ is positioned as a science-led intervention to preserve muscle mass and address protein deficiencies during treatment.

MV Ramana, CEO, Global Generics at Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd and Director at Nestlé Health Science, said: “GLP-1 therapies represent a significant advancement in diabetes and obesity management. However, a clear unmet need remains in supporting patients beyond pharmacological treatment, particularly in addressing nutrition gaps and preserving muscle health during therapy.

"As patients experience changes in body composition, ensuring adequate nutrient intake and maintaining lean body mass become critical to sustaining long-term outcomes. With Celevida GLP+, we aim to address this gap through a targeted, science-backed nutritional solution that complements pharmacological therapies and supports better overall patient outcomes in their everyday journey.

"As part of this commitment, we remain focused on advancing integrated, patient-centric solutions that enable more sustainable and holistic management of metabolic health.”

Clinical insights cited in the launch highlight a major concern: 25–40% of weight loss from GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP therapies may come from lean body mass, not just fat.

The risk is considered more pronounced in Indian populations, where baseline muscle mass is lower and dietary protein intake averages just 0.6 g/kg/day—well below recommended levels.

Experts suggest increasing protein intake to 1.2–1.5 g/kg/day during weight loss therapy to help preserve muscle, underscoring the need for structured nutritional support alongside medication.

Celevida GLP+ has been co-developed with endocrinologists and diabetologists to directly address this gap. The formulation uses fast-absorbing whey protein isolate and is designed for digestive tolerance during GLP-1-related gastrointestinal side effects. It delivers 48 g of protein per 100 g, 100% RDA of BCAAs, and 27 essential nutrients including vitamins A, D, and calcium.

The companies already market Celevida Diabetes Nutrition, which supports glucose control and metabolic management. Celevida GLP+ extends that portfolio into the growing GLP-1 therapy ecosystem.

The product will be available in 350 g packs through pharmacies, retail stores, and major e-commerce platforms across India.
